We are pleased to announce that the Roosevelt Institute for American Studies in Middelburg (RIAS) will host the 26th annual Amerikanistendag on Friday, 29 May 2020. The Amerikanistendag serves as a forum for students and recent graduates at the BA, (Res)MA, and PhD level to present their research to fellow students and scholars in the Netherlands.
The conference will be held in the beautiful abbey in Middelburg’s historic city center, which also houses the RIAS American Library. The keynote talk will be given by Katy Hull from the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Dr. Hull is a specialist in 20th-century US history and is particularly interested in human rights, US foreign policy, civil rights, masculinity, and intellectual history. She is currently working on a book manuscript about Americans who sympathized with Italian fascism in the interwar years.
The day will also include the award ceremony for the Theodore Roosevelt American History Award, a prestigious prize for the best MA thesis in American history and American studies in The Netherlands.
If you would like to present your research and meet other students and scholars working on similar topics, please join us! We invite papers on any topic related
to the USA and/or the Americas write large. Approaches from all disciplines are welcome: history, literature, cultural studies, economics, political science, law, gender studies, philosophy, etc. Our aims are both to showcase individual work, and to gather current interests and methods from a new generation of American Studies scholars.
