PhD Student, Roosevelt Institute for American Studies and Leiden University
Celia Nijdam is a PhD candidate in American History / American Studies at the Roosevelt Institute for American Studies and Leiden University. She graduated from the University of Amsterdam with a Master’s degree in American Studies. Later she received a Diploma in American Studies from Smith College in the United States, where she focused in particular on American (minority) literature and theatre. Her current project deals with the Federal Theatre Project of the New Deal. She is mainly focussing on the FTP’s director, Hallie Flanagan, and her relationship to the ideological movements present in the FTP.
