Call for Applications: Partial Funding for Salzburg Global Seminar American Studies Program

Founded at Schloss Leopoldskron in April 1954, the European Association for American Studies (EAAS) is proud to continue its tradition of supporting scholarly exchange and innovation. As part of this commitment, we are pleased to offer a funding opportunity for excellent early career researchers. Eligible applicants may apply for partial funding (€1600) to attend the 2025 Salzburg Global Seminar American Studies Program, titled “What Next for the U.S.? What Next for America in the World?”

The current standard rate to attend the American Studies Program is $4,250. The Salzburg Global Seminar (SGS) agreed to charge the EAAS nominee a reduced fee of $2,250, of which €1,600 (currently about $1,800) would come from EAAS. The EAAS nominee will need to cover the remaining $450, subject to current exchange rates, as well as their travel expenses to and from Salzburg. However, they may also apply for additional funding from sources outside EAAS to cover these costs.

This year’s Salzburg Global American Studies Program will convene a high-level group of people from the United States and further afield for a forward-looking conversation to assess what current developments mean for the future of democracy in America and the United States’ democratic alliances, and what these changes mean for the future of the international system.

The program is intended to be a forward-looking, forthright, and substantive dialogue, featuring divergent and non-standard views, as well as the views of next generation leaders. We want to look over the horizon beyond the current debates to have forthright conversations. The program will be off-the-record and held under the Chatham House rule.

To apply for partial funding, please send a CV and cover letter, including a brief description (300–500 words) of how participation in the seminar would be helpful and relevant to your research, to EAAS President Ingrid Gessner: ingrid.gessner@ph-vorarlberg.ac.at

Deadline for submission is June 15, 2025.
