Netherland-America Foundation Essay Challenge

The Netherland-America Foundation Essay challenge Sponsored by Dan Adams –one of the founders of the Biotech Industry.

Background information: The Netherland-America Foundation is pleased to offer an Essay Challenge. Sponsored by Dan Adams, one of the founding members of the Biotech industry. This challenge seeks to elicit ideas from the next generation of thinkers and leaders who will inherit societies whose problems are more complex than ever. The purpose is to bring to light how the next generation thinks about solutions to global problems.

What we are looking for: We are seeking essays addressing the question: “What global problem worries you the most and how you would propose it could be resolved”. Examples include novel virus outbreaks, income inequality, and global warming –but the list and creative solutions is endless. These complex issues that require a united approach from players with different cultural, educational and geopolitical backgrounds.

“I am really curious to find out if our young people have some crazy ideas that might just work to solve some of the serious problems our world is facing” said Dan Adams.

The winning three essays will receive rewards of $10,000, $5,000 or $2,500,respectively! The winner will be awarded in the fall at the NAF’s 2021 annual event in New York City.

Essay Guidelines and deadline

  • Limited to two pages (or 1,000 words)
  • Open for individuals aged 18 to 30 years from the Netherlands and the United States. Submissions from teams of individuals also will be considered provided all individuals on the team fall within this age range
  • Written in English
  • One submission per individual/team
  • Individuals do not need to be enrolled in college or university to apply
  • Deadline for Submission:June 30, 2021
  • Submit Applications to essaychallenge@thenaf.org

Selection Committee: A multidisciplinary team composed of Dutch and American scientists, entrepreneurs, investors and policymakers will review all essays and select three essays. Submissions will be judged on the basis of creativity, originality, clarity and quality of presentation.
