Call for NASR Editor-in-Chief (PhD Student)

The Netherlands American Studies Review (NASR) is currently looking for a new editor-in-chief to lead the editorial committee from September 1, 2024.

Who are we?

The Netherlands American Studies Review (NASR) is the student journal of the Netherlands American Studies Association (NASA). The aim of our journal is to showcase excellent student work on North American history, politics, literature, culture, or society written at Dutch universities. See for more information.

Available position

NASR is edited by a committee of five editors (MSc/MA/PhD students), an editor-in-chief (PhD student), and an academic coordinator (senior academic). We are currently looking for a new editor-in-chief to lead the editorial committee from September 1, 2024. As editor-in-chief, you will be responsible for the publication of each issue. Tasks include organizing meetings, selecting papers for publication, editing papers, and coordinating a team of five student editors. You will also serve as a PhD Representative in the NASA board and keep the board up-to-date on the journal. The editor-in-chief works on a voluntary basis and can expect to spend approximately fifty hours on each issue, most of which will be done in the months of April-June (no. 1) and October-December (no 2.)


  • You are a PhD student in American Studies or a related field at a Dutch University (candidates starting their PhD training in September 2024 are eligible to apply)
  • You have an excellent command of the English language and are familiar with the basic rules of academic writing
  • You possess excellent communication skills
  • You are organized and detail-oriented
  • Some editorial experience is a plus, but not a requirement
  • You are available in May-June 2024 to join meetings of the editorial committee to gain familiarity with the position (1-2 meetings)
