The Roosevelt Institute for American Studies (RIAS) is now looking for interns as of April 1st, 2025. The internships are offered quarterly, for a period of three months, 36 hours a week. The RIAS is an ideal position for a senior student in American Studies, American History or International Relations who has good command of spoken and written Dutch as well as English. The tasks for the intern include: library duties, assisting the staff in the organization of activities, maintenance of the website and social media, making archival materials accessible for visiting researchers, and secretarial assistance.
The internship is a multi-purpose position where you could learn many things, so it is especially useful for students who are considering an academic career or want to attain some academic work experience. Because the RIAS is a small institute, many different kinds of challenges will show up along the way.
The RIAS offers an intern payment of about €700 a month, with the possibility of compensation towards your housing costs. We will also help you to find accommodation.
The Roosevelt Institute for American Studies is located in the beautiful city center of Middelburg. The RIAS promotes academic research and provides graduate and post graduate training on the history and culture of the United States and European-American relations in the 20th and 21st centuries. It holds large book and archival collections on these subjects, and its staff regularly provide information to the public. The RIAS is also a meeting place and conference center for European and American historians.
